RESEARCH IN AYURVEDA MEDICINES

When I was at K.E.M. Hospital double-blind randomized clinical trials were conducted to study the efficacy, dosage and uses of Ashwagandha at the Seth G. S. Medical College affiliated to K. E. M. Hospital, Parel, Mumbai. Ashwagandha was found to have ‘anxiolytic’ effect. After this study Himalaya launched ‘Mentat’ with Ashwagandha as one of its constituents. The doses in Mentat, however, are lesser than the therapeutic effective doses found in the study group.

The definitions of premature ejaculation are varied and I expect more definitions will come. With the present definition of Premature Ejaculation PE it will not be surprising if majority of us get classified as having premature Ejaculation PE

BIOLOGY OF PROCREATION
The role of man is to deposit semen in the vagina. Penis acts like a dropper. Once there is discharge the erection is lost and does not come for quite some time in all males (refractory phase). Scientists believe that impregnation being the primary role of sexual intercourse nature designed ‘quick timing.’

Ayurvedic medicines have side effects

There is widespread wrong belief that Ayurvedic medicines have no side effects.
People and chemist bypass the Ayurvedacharya believing that all Ayurvedic medicines have no side effects.

People ask me if a particular Ayurvedic medicine, shilajeet for example, is good for them to use. The reply is, “Yes, it is good for the seller, but not good for you, the buyer. In fact Shilajeet is nephrotoxic (poisonous to kidney)”.
Please note any medicine that has effect, is bound to have “side effect”. Most advertised Ayurvedic medicines/Patanjali medicines make tall claims. These medicines give huge profit to the manufacturer and zero benefit to the consumer.
Please note that the drug control laws are stringent for modern allopathic medicine (as they should be), but are lax for natural/herbal/home/Ayurvedic remedies. Two huge dangers result from this.
1.
The Ayurvedic/Herbal product may not even contain what is written on the label outside on the sealed container.
2.
Allopathic medicines that may bring quick results, but are potentially hazardous (example steroids, sildenafil) are sold under the label of Ayurvedic / Herbal / Natural Cure.
I have found this several times in my clinical practice.

***** Two U.S. studies found that about 20 percent of Ayurvedic US and Indian-manufactured patent medicines sold via internet contained toxic levels of heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic. Other concerns include the use of herbs containing toxic compounds and the lack of quality control in Ayurvedic facilities.

I strongly recommend not to buy Ayurvedic/Herbal/Natural/Home remedies from
the internet or from roadside vendors, the sexologists who advretise (quacks) or from watching a late night documentary that looks like an interview, but is a commercial advertisement.
