To detect pregnancy: How to collect urine?
Use freshly collected first morning sample of urine.
Collect urine in a clean & dry glass container
Do not use the container which is washed with a detergent /soap. (There should be no trace of detergent/soap.)
Detecting pregnancy: How to use the UPT kit?
- Let the fresh urine sample and the Urine Pregnancy Test Kit (if it is kept in the refrigerator) come to room temperature.
- Takeout the test device from the pouch just before you start the test . Do not remove the test device from the pouch & keep it open for a long period of time.
- Remove the reaction device from its protective wrapper.
- Your test device has a well marked “S” ( samples well ) & a result well marked “C” ( control region ) & “T” ( test region )
- Keep the test device away from fan, drier or breeze of air while performing the test
- Keep the test device on a flat surface
- Collect the urine sample with the help of a dropper
- Add exactly 3 drops of urine sample in the well marked “S”. Do not add the urine sample in the test window “C” & “T” or any other part of the test device.
- Read results within 5 minutes.Not more than 5 minutes.
(Appearance of test lines after 5 minutes may not have any significance. If you want to confirm, discard the used test device & repeat the above test with a fresh test device & fresh samples.)
Detecting pregnancy: How to interpret the UPT result?
Positive
If two distinct color bands (pink/purple) appear, one in the test region (T), one in the control region (C) within 5 minutes, then the test is positive.
Positive indicates woman is Pregnant, for further confirmation consult Gynaecologist.
Negative
If only one distinct color band (pink/purple) appears in the control region (C) within 5 minutes then the test in negative.
Negative indicates that woman may not be Pregnant. If periods are further delayed repeat test after a week and consult Gynaecologist for confirmation.
Invalid :
If no distinct color band appear ,both in the test region (T) & in the control region (C) within 5 minutes, then the test is invalid. It is recommended in the case to repeat the test.
Urine Pregnancy Test Kit Storage and Stability
Urine Pregnancy Test Kit, Velocit ©, is to be stored at 2-8° C in the sealed pouch. Do not freeze test kit. Do not use after expiry date, stamped on the label.

hCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone that appears in the urine when a woman is pregnant approximately 20 days after her last menstrual period. This pregnancy hormone level then rises rapidly reaching a peak level by 8-12 weeks of gestation.

A number of conditions other than pregnancy,
trophoblastic disease and certain non-trophoblastic neoplasms including testicular tumors, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer, cause elevated levels of hCG. Therefore, the presence of hCG in urine should not be used to diagnose pregnancy unless these conditions have been ruled out.
HOW TO KNOW THAT THE RESULTS OF URINE PREGNANCY TEST UPT COULD BE FALSE?
FALSE POSITIVE
hCG may remain detectable for a few days
to several days after delivery, abortion, or
natural termination.
Drugs which contain hCG result in false positive.
FALSE NEGATIVE
Very low levels of hCG (less than 50 mIU/ml) are present
in urine specimen shortly after implantation.
False negative results may occur when the levels
are below the sensitivity level of the test.
As a rule, hCG levels, if you are pregnant, are between 5 – 50 mIU a week before your period is due. The hCG levels in your system should double every two to three days.
In normal pregnancy, hCG can be
detected in serum as early as 7 days following
conception. The concentration of hCG continues
to rise rapidly, frequently exceeding 100 mIU/ml by the
first missed menstrual period and peaking in the
30-200,000 mIU/ml range by 10-12 weeks into
pregnancy.
UPT gives presumptive diagnosis.
Confirmed pregnancy diagnosis should only be made by a physician
