All boys and girls who are sexually active will benefit from knowing those days of
woman’s menstrual cycle when pregnancy is most unlikely from sexual intercourse
even without using any protection like condom or daily
OC pills Ovral© Daily Oral Contraceptive Pills like Ovral © .

What is safe period for sex to prevent pregnancy? Use calendar method. See photo.
After making out without protection if you are afraid and want to know if your
sex will result in pregnancy, calendar method described here is useful.
If you find that you had sex during SAFE period then after sex you do not have to take
i pill © UNWANTED PILL
i pill © , unwanted © , pill 72 © are called EC Pill or emergency contraceptive pill, which is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex to avoid pregnancy
. You do not have to do anything. Just relax and wait for the expected period because you know pregnancy is most unlikely in the safe period.

If you are going to do sexual intercourse and do not want pregnancy and if you do not want to use any protection (like condom or daily oral contraceptive pills or even the pill used immediately after sex) then this calendar method is useful.

Who can use safe period calendar method?

This calendar method is useful only if the girl’s periods are regular.

Who can NOT use safe period calendar method?

For girls with irregular periods this method to prevent pregnancy is unreliable. Example of irregular period: Menstrual cycle of 40 or more days alternating with menstrual cycle of 20 days. Irregular cycles are when she cannot predict next expected bleeding.

With this you will know safe days (safe period) for unprotected sex (without condom) to prevent pregnancy

The safe period consists of days of the woman’s menstrual cycle when unprotected sex is unlikely to result in pregnancy. Meaning, sex even without condom (unprotected sex) is safe.

If the girl is able to predict with reasonable accuracy the date of her next expected period she can use calendar method to prevent pregnancy.

In the picture above the days of menses are shown in red as April 19, 20, 21 and 22.

Thumb rule for safe days for not getting pregnant

The thumb rule is first week beginning from the first day of bleeding and the week before beginning of menses is safe period for sex without protection. Sex on these days is most unlikely to result in pregnancy. Therefore, in the above calendar, safe days are April 12 to 18 as well as days April 19 to 25. Only one ovum is released on day April 5.

Why choose SAFE DAYS for sex?

In one monthly menstrual cycle only one egg is released in the girl. Meaning if man’s semen comes in contact with woman’s vagina only one ovum is available in the entire month for conception. This female egg (ovum) is invariably released exactly 14 days before the first day of the next expected period.

However, not just that one day when female releases egg cell (ovulation) is considered unsafe. More days are considered unsafe because the female egg and the man’s sperms do survive for some time after they are released in the genital passage. Also, the woman’s periods are not absolutely regular. The next expected period may vary by few days.

How to know SAFE days?

Safe Period to prevent pregnancy by Calendar Method

1. Simple Thumb Rule

In the calendar method first one week from the first day of menses bleeding and one week before the first day of menses bleeding are consider safe period.

2. Ovulation Calendar

Ovulation calculators are available on the internet. They give range of days when pregnancy is most likely. The Ovulation calculator or fertility calculator gives days that constitute unsafe period or ovulation period or fertile period. All the other remaining days are considered SAFE days as pregnancy is unlikely,

The ovulation calendar at this site http://www.ovulation-calendar.net/
gives option of gender preference, meaning whether you wish to have baby boy or girl.

How to calculate Safe Period to prevent pregnancy by

3. Dr. Koparday’s Method

Combination of Calendar Method and Use of Condom during Unsafe Periods is my choice of birth control method for newly weds who want to postpone pregnancy after wedding.

Dr. Koparday’s Calendar Method Formula

Koparday’s
Calendar Method Formula for safe period to prevent pregnancy is

1st Unsafe day

First Unsafe Day
= (S – 19) and

Last Unsafe day

Last Unsafe Day
= (L – 10)

S-19 = First day of unsafe period
L – 10 = Last day of unsafe period
S is shortest day of cycle.
L is longest day of cycle

If the shortest menstrual cycle in one year is 27 days [s days] and the longest 29 days [l days] then
first unsafe day is shortest cycle
S- 19 = 27 – 19= 8th day
last unsafe day is longest cycle
L – 10 = 29 – 10= 19th day
On wall or table calendar mark first day of menses as Day 1. Days 8 to 19 are unsafe.
Rest of the days are safe days for sex.

Though only one day in a month the ovum is released (14 days before the first day of next expected period) more days than that particular day are considered unsafe. Ovum survives only for 12 to 24 hours after it’s release. Sperm survives in the woman’s upper genital tract for 3 to 4 days (Sometimes for a week).

How is safe period for sex to prevent pregnancy calculated?
It is interesting and important to know that in entire one menstrual cycle only one ovum is liberated.
If your menses are regular than in 12 months only 12 ova will be liberated. (One Ovum per month.) This means if you are having sexual intercourse for 365 days you only have 12 chances of getting pregnant.
One female egg cell (Ovum) is liberated from the ovary 14 days prior to date of expected period.

The days following release of ovum is called the luteal phase.

(menstrual cycle: 28 days, luteal phase: 14 days).

Additional Information

  1. Ovulation kit [click to read more] available in medical stores (without doctor’s prescription) predicts the date of ovulation 24 to 48 hours before ovulation. This is used by those couples who want to plan sex so that they will have the maximum most chances of conception.
  2. Ultra sonography done by a doctor can tell the period of ovulation.
  3. Formerly, basal body temperature, cervical position and examining cervical mucus were used to find SAFE days and unsafe or fertile days.
